|The Immaculate Conception Chaplet|
Sorry for the horribleness of the picture above. It is one of my older pictures, and I was at first going to make a new chaplet and post it with a better picture, but I wanted to get this post out right away....because something happened today that was really upsetting.
Long story short, after getting that "lady" off the computer, she continued to pop up again, and again. She popped up during the kids games, and later when they were watching Strawberry Shortcake on Netflix. After preforming a virus scan, I decided to keep the kids off the Internet and play a DVD on the computer. We do not have a DVD player anywhere in the house, and normally during "Quiet Time" they watch a movie, read books, play with toys, ect. Thinking it was now safe, I came upstairs to have my own quiet time when the kids came shrieking upstairs, saying that there was now a different naked lady on the computer. What could I do, but just finally shut off the computer. The kids were disappointed when I told them that the computer was "sick" with a virus. However, the world is sicker.
At the age of 8 1/2 (almost 9), 7, 5, and 3, my kids have seen more pornography in one day and have now been exposed to the ugliness of impurity; impurity that I've tried so hard to keep away from my children.
However, I am proud to say that each time I had to come downstairs to get those lewd pictures off the computer, all of my children were shouting for "Mama to come get the scary lady off the computer!" with their backs turned and eyes shut tight. I will never forget seeing my 3 year old with both hands covering her eyes.
I wish I had shut off the computer after the first time this happened, but I thought that the kids accidentally clicked on a bad link, and that simply getting out of that website would take care of the problem. It seems that we do have a virus, but from now on, our kids will not be playing on the Internet. I told them I would buy some games instead.

The reality is, our kids are exposed all the time to impurity. They hear the impurity at school, from kids who learn to repeat what they hear at home. The see it on TV (if you're not careful about what they watch), and even on some commercials. They see it in dolls, in the immodest ways that dolls are dressed (Barbie dolls come to mind on this. Why does she always look like she's ready to hit the bars??)
They will see it in the movies with their friends as they get older, they will be "educated" in some way at school about safe sex (unless you pull them out of that class, which my Mom did with me), and they will learn about sex from the talk of friends. They will be tempted by boyfriends/girlfriends, and they will be pressured to "get with it" and have sex like everyone else, because this is what they will do anyway.
Lord, let me never say the words, "I can only do so much to protect my kids"! This sort of talk sounds like you are giving up on your kids.
There is a lot we can do as parents to protect our childrens purity. We are the filters to all that enters into their eyes and ears and soul. And while it's true that we can't always be there 24/7 to safeguard and protect their innocence, we can do a lot to educate them to protect their own purity.
We can give good examples of saints who cared about their purity so much, that they died to protect it. St.Maria Goretti, St.Philomena and Servant of God Albertina Berkenbrock, are just a few of the child saints who died to protect their virginity. St. Dominic Savio is a great role model for boys, as well as Servant of God Angelino Bonetta. (Sorry, not all links were available. But you can find more of these stories in the book Saintly Youth of Modern Times.)
And yes, I keep showing the Immaculate Conception chaplet throughout this post, so you know what I'm going to say next. Yes, get this chaplet! If not from me, then from somewhere else. If not bought, then make your own. It would be very easy to make this out of cord. I really don't care where you get it, but we need to be better about praying for purity.
I love this chaplet because it's easy to say. I love it because of what it stands for. I love it because we obtain many graces through this prayer. I love it because our it's honoring our Blessed Mother's purity and virginity. And she loves it when we pray for purity and she, our Mother, will make sure it's guarded.
When we pray for our purity, we obtain graces for those unexpected attacks that come out of nowhere against purity. And when we pray specifically for purity, work hard to keep our purity, such as through the discipline of a prayer or chaplet, we become stronger against temptations, and wiser to see the temptations against purity that we may have not seen before.
Lord, let me never say the words that I will not fall into the the sin of impurity. Let me never assume that I am "that good" and "that holy" that I could never commit "that sin."
Today, during Sunday school, I'm going to give each of my kids a chaplet of the Immaculate Conception. I was wondering what I would talk about today for Sunday school, but sometimes material presents itself. Thanks to that naked woman on the computer, I now have something.
We will be talking about chastity and how important it is to keep our souls safe. We'll talk about changing the subject or walking away when someone at school wants to talk about something impure. We will talk about how we need to respect our bodies by dressing modestly and how we need to always keep our hands--and eyes--where they belong. We will again talk about how we need to be careful about how we talk and what shows we watch (this has already been talked about many times.)
And then I will teach them the prayer of the Immaculate Conception and tell them the story of St.John Berchmann, who loved and wanted to protect his purity so much, that he made up this prayer himself and said it every night.
As I was going to teach you this prayer, I did a search and what did I find but my own chaplet, on YouTube, of this chaplet and the beautiful prayer! My breath was taken away, what an honor to see one of my own chaplets used to teach this prayer, and how very moving to know that someone is as passionate--or even more so--to teach people about this prayer!
Below, please click on the video to learn this prayer. And if you feel so moved, go to my Etsy shop to buy this chaplet. From now on, my chaplet will only be $2, plus shipping. Just enough money so that I can continue to buy the materials to make more.
I will also increase the quantity so that you can buy as many as you wish for others. It is never too late to protect our children's purity.
